Lea Test System Explanation                                                                 View Shopping Cart

The Lea Test system was developed by Dr Lea Hyvarinen, M.D. It offers a complete set of tests from pediatric to geriatric patients. These tests are based on the premise that an effective visual acuity test-especially those that target children- should include optotypes that blur equally. Tests with Lea symbols are designed to eliminate problems with language barriers and the feeling of failure young patients sometimes experience when doing visual acuity tests. When no longer correctly recognized, the symbols transform into circles appropriately called "rings" or "balls" by the patient. The child perceives answering correctly, while the examiner detects acuity threshold. The Lea shapes are also symbols that are used later with various exercises designed by the author to test the child's vision for acuity and color perception. The child prepares for the tests at home by the age of 1 ½ to 2 years instead of the usual 3 to 4 years.

The Lea system uses these LogMAR symbols
